Provide a dignified transition for Mom and Dad
Facilitating the conversation with Moms and Dads living at home alone or who might have a qualified Senior Care worker assisting to talk with their children about their wishes and needs. Sometimes difficult conversations arise for families worried about the condition of the home, hoarding and other concerns to make certain our older adults are safe in their homes.
Creating a plan for the family to provide for Mom and Dad to properly handle their finances and to become aware of fraudulent or mismanagement of funds. Having family communicate who will provide (and paid for) grocery shopping and travel to the doctor or other outings helps everyone.
Sometimes the hardest conversation is to talk to Mom and Dad about when to take away the car keys. Families dealing with parents with different physical and mental abilities transition, such as Alzheimer's, Dementia and other medical needs, causes special strain on families and caregivers.
Families no longer live close to their parents. Either Mom and Dad moved away from our cold Minnesota winters or they have jobs around the US or the world. The adult children want to be a part of their parent's lives, but physical distance keeps them apart.
Videoconferencing tools will be used to bring families together so they can see each other "across the table".
By 2030, 20% of our population will be under the age of 18 and 20% will be over the age of 65? 60% of our population will be required to care for, pay and provide for 40% of the population. We need to provide solutions which will meet this growing need.
Addressing this growing epidemic will require everyone to become educated and involved. Conservatively, 40% of all seniors experience some type of abuse (financial, physical, neglect, isolation, spiritual, etc.) 2/3 of those being abused are by someone the senior trusts.
Bring families and advisors together to have regular conversations and documentation will begin the conversation and provide a solution to protect our seniors and promote their dignity and independent living.
